History of Kottayawatta wedaparapura begins with a great physician who has treated to the Arhath Maliyadeva thero. According to Mahawansha, Arhath Maliyadewa thero suffered from an abdominal disease and came to the village of Sulugulla (Hulugalla in present) looking for a treatment for his illness. ‘Suluguluwaidya’, made a porridge using 10 herbs and offered it to Arhath Maliyadeva which completely healed him.
Over generations, Kottayawatta wedaparapura developed with the experience and knowledge of great physicians, (Ranbada Weda Arachchila, Kottayawatta Ranhami, Kottayawatta Ranbanda) in the village Hulugalla. Vaidyacharya W.M.R. Ranbanda has treated numerous VVIPs including the most Venerable Nauyane Ariyadhamma thero, a former president of Sri Lanka and a professor from University of Oxford. Following his footsteps, Dr. W.M.S.S. Kottayawaththa is the 22nd Generation of Kottayawatta lineage.

Kottayawatta, is the current practitioner of the Kottayawatta medical lineage. He is a registered (General) Traditional Physician in the Sri Lanka Ayurveda Medical Council. Dr. W.M.S.S. The production factory is located in Hulugalla, 47km away from Kurunegala.
